Treating Sunburns and Insect Bites
Though preventing sunburns is the best way to stay safe, there are a few things you can do to treat sunburns when they do happen. You can bathe your child in cool water or use a cool compress directly on the sunburn. Aloe gel or hydrocortisone based creams cool skin and also reduce itching – making them good for bug bites too! Products with fewer ingredients and high in natural ingredients such as aloe are often safer for your baby’s sensitive skin. When going outside with a sunburn, make sure your little one wears a t-shirt and a hat to stay covered as her burn heals. Wearing clothing is also the best way to keep bugs off, though they too can sneak their way onto kids. Use a sensitive skin or baby safe bug repellent when going outside. Most mosquito, mite, and spider bites are not harmful but can cause swollen, itchy red spots on the skin. Wash with soap and water and then apply an itch relief gel or cream. If you find a tick on your child, grab a pair of tweezers to get it out immediately. Carefully pinch the sides of the tick as close to the skin as possible and pull it out. Since ticks carry Lyme disease, it is recommended that you keep the tick in a secure plastic baggie in case it needs to be tested by your doctor. Top Summer Pregnancy Tips to Stay Cool and Comfy
Wear something that feels good and looks good too. Just because you are pregnant doesn’t mean you can’t look good. When women think they look good, they tend to feel good too. So throw on a flowy top, a sundress, or lose the sleeves. Wearing lightweight fabrics keeps the air flowing and the steam from spreading. Stay hydrated. You’ve been hearing it forever and it’s still just as important. Your body needs water to balance body temperature as well as to keep your body functioning properly. For a summer spin, drop a slice of citrus or a sprig of mint into your cup. Get up and go. Though it may not be much cooler, taking a day trip to the beach, lake, or park can reenergize you and be a lot of fun. Be active during pregnancy. It’s recommended by doctors and can make you feel good about yourself and your body. Walking and swimming are great ways to get moving; even better, why not go for a walk and then cool off with a swim? Lather up with sunscreen. Not only can the sun’s rays be damaging to your skin, but they can cause uncomfortable sunburns. Always use sunscreen and reapply it frequently to prevent any unwanted burns. Too late? Aloe gel cools and soothes sunburns too. Baby powder can be for moms too. If you need a quick fix, sprinkling baby powder on yourself can help to cool you down. It will help absorb sweat that makes you feel sticky and will help you feel fresh (and smooth!) TopGrand Opening of our Safety 1st® and Cosco® Juvenile Shop Websites!

At the table, Kadyn likes everything. Mashed potatoes are one of his favorites, but he’ll eat just about anything that comes his way. Zarrien is a little pickier, but he’ll eat pizza morning, noon, and night says Roxann. Roxann has childproofed her home using the Essentials Childproofing Kit which she’s found to be very helpful. Kadyn also uses the Safety 1st® Jack Potty, the Quinny® Buzz™ stroller (which they get many compliments on), and the Maxi-Cosi® Priori™ Car Seat. In his explorations, Kadyn has discovered the computer and can always be found turning it on and off or opening the CD-ROM drive. Roxann thinks that his cutest habit is that he is a charmer; whenever he does something he knows he shouldn’t be doing he gives kisses! But if you don’t buy into his charm, she says that he’ll go right back to what he was doing – likely at the computer. Roxann’s favorite part about being a mom is that she is able to see her children grow and learn things that will allow them to make good choices in the future. She likes being their advocate in any possible way she can to ensure their childhood is full of great experiences. She looks forward to seeing her kids after work, and encourages other working moms to treasure every moment with their kids. “Always find time to spend with your kids,” she says, “in the end, the rewards are so much greater.”TopIf you have any questions regarding Safety 1st products please contact Dorel Juvenile Group Consumer Relations at consumer@djgusa.com Top |
Where did the time go? It seems like just yesterday that we were looking forward to Memorial Day and then the 4th of July. And now Labor Day is just weeks away, marking the end of summer fun. Summers are special—a time when you kick back and enjoy some quality time with your family. It’s a time for family reunions and backyard BBQs. Or maybe just watching the clouds pass by. So soak in the last fleeting moments of summer. Take a field trip. Play hooky and go to the beach. But remember, the sun is still high in the sky and the bugs are still biting, so slather on some sunscreen and bug spray before you head out on your last summer adventure. Enjoy!
The summer is all about being outside, relaxing, and enjoying time with your family and little one. However, being outside can often mean sunburns and bug bites. The sun’s rays are strongest during summertime, and daily activities outside cause more burns than people tend to think. Sunscreen should be applied liberally before going outside; it usually takes about 30 minutes to fully set into skin. No matter what type of complexion your child has, it is recommended that all children over 6 months should wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30. Babies under 6 months should stay in the shade; though consulting your doctor about sun safety is always a good idea.
So the summer heat has been blasting and chances are your hormones are racing which could keep you boiling, but here are some tips to keep you cool and comfy.

This month we spoke to Roxann Johnson-Bey, Team Captain in Consumer Relations, about her son Kadyn! At 17 months, Kadyn loves to go exploring throughout the house – particularly in his brother Zarrien’s room, age 8. The brothers get along pretty well and play together all the time. They particularly enjoy swimming and going to the pool as well as playing video games on their new Nintendo® Wii™.
